Pick Your Best Followers

Never fails. An organization wants to reward a hard-working individual, so they promote them to supervisor. The intention is good but the result can be bad. Many recently promoted don’t have the skill set to lead nor do they even want to. If you’re looking for your next generation of front-line leaders, pick your best followers.

Look for followers who:
Take direction well. You can’t lead if you can’t follow. We all have a boss we report to (even me.)

Look for followers who:
Ask questions. These naturally curious followers make good leaders. They hunger for more knowledge.

Look for followers who:
Help their team mates without prompting. If you see this behavior, you’ve spotted an aspiring
servant leader.
